Presenter: Mary Abrams
Mary Abrams brings passion and skill to her teaching, offering detailed attention to breath, sensation, emotion, and creative process. An Authorized Continuum Teacher, she directs and teaches at Moving Body Resources (NYC), and is course leader of the MA Dance & Somatic Well-being course at the University of Central Lancashire in the UK and USA.
Her background includes dance (30 yrs), Continuum with Emilie Conrad and Susan Harper (17 yrs), and work with Gary David, Ph.D. in Epistemics and affect-script psychology. She holds a BA in Dance and MA in Consciousness Studies as Embodied Movement. www.movingbodyresources.com

This 2-day didactic and experiential workshop will introduce and explore the principles and concepts of Modern Bioenergetics based on the monograph Modern Bioenergetics: An Integrative Approach to Psychotherapy written by Dr. Scott Baum.
The workshop is open to mental health professionals who have some experience with body-oriented psychotherapy and for those interested in training in Bioenergetic Analysis. This is the initial workshop for the 2011 – 2012 NY Society training program and will be presented by members of the NY Society Faculty. This one-day intensive workshop is for people in psychotherapy seeking an experiential understanding of body-oriented therapy, and for professionals interested in learning about working with the body in psychotherapy. Conducted by members of the faculty of the New York Society for Bioenergetic Analysis, the main focus of the day will be devoted to experiential, in-depth personal work. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a bag lunch.

Work with the body addresses breathing and chronic muscular tension through a variety of movements, positions, and exercises. Bioenergetic Exercises facilitate change on a deep body level, increasing one’s ability to experience pleasure and contactfulness in living--feeling connected to oneself, to others, and to one’s surroundings.
